The sun was shining, the atmosphere was electric, and the netball courts at Manurewa Netball Centre were abuzz with excitement as the 2023 youth winter season officially commenced. It was a momentous occasion, made even more special by the presence of our General Manager and Trustees, who were honored to be invited to join in the festivities.

In a heartwarming display of community spirit, the Wiri Licensing Trust was called upon to carry out a cherished tradition – the official opening of the winter season. With a crowd of eager onlookers, the spotlight was on Glenn Murphy, accompanied by Natasha Kemp of Manurewa Marae, as they geared up to take the first shot at goal. However, despite their best efforts, the net remained untouched. It seemed the pressure of the moment had affected even the most seasoned of players.

Yet, this is where the essence of community and youth sports shines the brightest. Two junior players, with unwavering confidence and enthusiasm, stepped up to the plate. In a matter of seconds, they made their mark, sinking their shots effortlessly, and saving the day. Their unbridled passion and composure under pressure showcased the incredible talent nurtured within the Manurewa Netball Centre’s youth program.

As the parade unfolded and the season’s festivities officially kicked off, it was evident that this year’s winter season would be nothing short of extraordinary.
