South Auckland hosts Anzac Day services

South Auckland communities will come together this Anzac Day to honour the servicemen and servicewomen, past and present, who have served Aotearoa New Zealand. Here’s a list of local services where you can pay your respects and reflect on their sacrifice.

Āwhitu Anzac Commemoration

Service: 8.30am at Awhitu Cenotaph, Āwhitu Central Church, 16 Hamilton Rd.

Other Details: Community Morning tea and cuppa to follow service. Bringing a plate to share would be appreciated.

Bombay Community Anzac Parade and Service

Parade Assembly: 8.35am at Paparata Rd.

Parade Commences: 8.45am Paparata Rd.

Service: 8.45am at Bombay Memorial Arch

Road Closures: Intersections of Bombay Road and Paparata Road and Paparata and Barber road – redirection away from Parade route.

Other Details: Service will be formally lead by and MC with Pipe Band and singers in attendance. Morning tea will be provided after service in the Bombay War Memorial Hall.

Buckland War Memorial Service

Service: 9.45am at the Cenotaph,Buckland Rd, Pukekohe.

Road Closures: Traffic off Buckland Road will be detoured via George Cr.

Other Details: Tea, coffee and light refreshments at the Buckland Community Hall after the service.

Cook Islands Anzac Commemoration

Service: 2pm, 285-289 Kirkbride Rd, Māngere.

Other Details: Light Refreshments is provided at the venue after the service. A commemoration concert will also take place after the Anzac programme.

Drury Community Anzac Service

Service: 11am at Drury Cenotaph, Tui St

Other Details: We have chairs but if you want to be sure bring your own chair along. Sausages on the BBQ with drinks and ice creams after the service at the community Library.

Service Commences: 10am, Māngere Bridge War Memorial Hall, 23 Domain Rd.

Māngere East Matala Anzac Parade and Service

Parade Assembly: 9am, Walter Massey Park field corner of Massey Rd and Hain Ave

Service: 10am, 372 Massey Rd

Other Details: Breakfast: Tea & Coffee provided from 8:30am-9am. Lunch: sausage sizzle and salads: 11:30am-12pm

Manukau Memorial Gardens Anzac Parade and Service

Parade Assembly: 5.45am at Manukau Memorial Gardens, 361 Puhinui Rd.

Parade Commences: 5.50am with short march to the service location.

Service: 6am in Manukau Memorial Gardens.

Parade Assembly: 7am at Church of the Nazarene, East Tāmaki Rd.

Parade Commences: 7:30am at Church of the Nazarene, East Tāmaki Rd

Service: 7.45am at the Cenotaph, East Tāmaki Rd

Road Closures: 6am until 12pm, East Tāmaki Rd – Church of the Nazarene up to East Tāmaki First World War Memorial Lights.

Parade Assembly: 5.30am at Papakura Police Station, 64 Wood St

Parade Commences: 5.45am. Parade along Wood St, left onto Great South Rd towards Ōpaheke Rd, left from Great South Rd into Ōpaheke Rd ending at the War Memorial.

Service: 6am at Cenotaph, cnr Great South and Ōpaheke Rds.

Road Closures: Yard start: 3am Road Closure by: 5:30 am Assembly by: 9.30 am Event finish: 12 pm Yard finish: 3pm

Papatoetoe Anzac Civic Parade and Service

Parade Assembly: 10am at Papatoetoe Central, cnr of Great South Rd and St George St.

Parade Commences: 10.10am. Parade will march down to the Papatoetoe RSA

Service: 10.30am at the Papatoetoe RSA, 22 Wallace Rd.

Road Closures: St George St from Papatoetoe Central School (Great South Rd) to Kolmar Rd lights and Wallace Rd to the New World carpark entrance.

Service: 9am at Cenotaph, cnr Great South and Opaheke Rds

Road Closures: Yard start: 3am Road Closure by: 5:30am Assembly by: 9.30am Event finish: 12pm Yard finish: 3pm

 

Pukekohe Anzac Dawn Service

Parade Assembly: 5.40am at Pukekohe Scout and Guide Hall, 2 Edinburgh St.

Parade Commences: 5.45am from Pukekohe Scout and Guide Hall to carpark of War Memorial Hall.

Service: 6am at carpark of Pukekohe War Memorial Hall

Other Details: As a wet weather option, commeorations will be held at Pukekohe Intermediate School Hall across the road from the RSA.

Service: 11am at Pukekohe Intermediate School Hall, 44 Queen St.

Waiau Pa, Clarks Beach, Patumahoe RSA Anzac Parade and Service

Parade Assembly: 10am at Waiau Pa Hall, Waiau Pa Rd

Parade Commences: 10.30am into Waiau Pa school grounds

Service: 10.30am Waiau Pa School, Waiau Pa Rd.

Other Details: Morning tea at Waiau Pa Hall following the service with a photographic display of the battlefields and memorials of the Somme and Flanders.

Waiuku Anzac Parade and Commemoration

Parade Assembly: 10.30am outside St Andrews Church, 85 Queen St

Parade Commences: 10.45am to Waiuku Centaph.

Road Closures: Queen St from Town Hall to Belgium St, plus Kirk St, Kent St, Mellsop Ave & George St junctions
