Teaching parents basic life-saving skills and what to do in an emergency is a fantastic way to keep the youngest members of our community safe.
Finlayson Park Community Education Trust recently delivered a course teaching first aid skills for littlies to a group of caregivers.
It was paid for by a grant from the Wiri Community Impact Fund.
Rakhi Sharma, Programme Co-ordinator for the Trust’s Early Learning and Play Programme, says the parents were given practical tips on what to do in emergencies such as choking or when a child becomes unresponsive.
They also got the chance to practise CPR and choking response techniques on baby dummies!
“Many parents expressed their appreciation, finding the session useful, reassuring, and empowering. We’re so grateful for the chance to bring such meaningful learning to our families.”
The grant paid for the costs of an expert trainer and kai for the day. To encourage parents to take part, Wiri Licensing Trust also gave everyone on the course a $20 voucher for its flagship venue Woodside Bar, Dining and Functions.
Wiri Trust General Manager Kim Green says the Impact Fund has been set up to support the real, everyday needs of people doing good in the local community.
It offers donations of up to $500 to help ensure worthy community projects that just need a little boost can go ahead.
“Keeping our tamariki safe is a big focus for the Wiri Licensing Trust and this was an ideal project for the Impact Fund to invest in.”
